NZ Sailing net (alias Rooster)has a range of well priced gear and equipment for the classes like Laser, 420, and others eg training sail for Laser $595.
If you are looking at a boat if there's a choice get one with a beach trailer setup. So much easier to launch and manage. If it's a Laser get an alloy beach trailer. Worth $350 second hand at Boat Bits.,or about $600 new. galv ones around 250 second hand.
To put a road trailer together in flat deck form that's got no
registration etc budget $800. Axle and hubs $250, probably new wheels and tyres
if aged rubber with sidewall cracking ..up to $200, springs $80, towknob
$70, ply sheet for flat deck $100, fixings $50, regn $100, WOF $30, probably
rewire or bulbs $40.
So when you see one with "all nice the gear" it's worth
paying $1000 extra for ...just do it and enjoy the sport. DIY inevitably
will cost more and I've tried galv pipe etc. Buying brand new however is another
story.
Several members need crew for Sunbursts. If you are keen to crew please contact the Club a few days prior to the next sailing day so we can arrange something solid for you. If you come down on the day, there is also every chance a crew slot can be arranged or that one of the Club boats might be available for you to sail yourself. If it works out there are some long term crew opportunities as well as casual test sails.
