Introduction:
-
The Sailing Club is for families, all ages welcome. There’s a
wonderful sense of community and it’s a great place to meet people
from your local area.
-
We sail dinghies and windsurfers at the club (or anything else that
floats).
-
You don’t need to know how to sail to join. We’ll up-skill you!
Sailing lessons are available. The “Learn to Sail” course runs at
least two times per year. Duration is two weekends, and is for ages
9 and up incl.
adults. The course follows the Yachting New Zealand syllabus for
Levels 1 and 2. Membership fees are included in the Learn to Sail
Courses, for those that are not already members.
-
Younger children (below 9 years) are encouraged to crew with their
parents.
-
Children 9 and older can sail together with their mates or
individually or with parents.
-
Crewing - Turn up at all Club events, crew experienced and
inexperienced are always welcome, it’s a great way of learning to
sail.
-
In summertime, we have very popular Friday after work sailing, with
a BBQ held on the club deck.
The Club has Friday evening sailing during summer daylight saving
hours, also matching the tides. For these there are no races, nor
fees and experienced Club members are always happy to help out
someone who needs some advice or assistance. The Club BBQ is
available for B.Y.O. dinner and drink. These are especially good for
beginner and intermediate sailors and for families to try out
sailing on the kids.
-
Sailing and/or Racing is run all year round, at roughly 2-week
intervals on a Sunday to match the tides. In fact ‘racing’ is
optional and there is a wide range of sailing ability amongst the
membership. Sailing dinghies
used include: Optimist, Splash, Laser, Sunburst, Zephyr,
Windsurfers. The Club also has summer sailing days that sail around
the harbour weather permitting. The membership list contains a
balance of both young families and adult racers.
-
Currently you can borrow one of the club’s eight boats if you don’t
have one. On Sundays there is a $10 fee for the club boats. Free on
Friday / BBQ afternoons.
-
We have Optimists, Splashes and Lasers.
-
We are introducing an optional buddy system; new members can be
buddied up with existing members for ongoing information.
-
The normal subscription covers the period 1 September to 31 August.
-
There is an early payment discount for members who rejoin the
following year and pay early.
-
The membership fee includes the affiliation fees paid to YNZ
(Yachting New Zealand) and AYBA (Auckland Yachting and Boating
Association).
-
Family, Junior and Senior members are placed on a roster to help on
two days of the sailing calendar, for juniors this is usually a
parent.
-
Sunday Sailing + Race entry fees are nil for sailing members but
this excludes any external events hosted by the Club. Visitors are
charged race entry fees of $10.00 for senior racers and $5.00 for
junior racers respectively, per boat for Club events. Associate
members must pay visitor fees if they wish to participate in Club
race events or harbour expeditions.
-
Family, Senior or Junior members can also hire a key to the unisex
bathroom (which includes toilet and shower) for $20.00 per year.
Family
Membership covers 2 adults and children up to 18 years of age.
Junior
Membership covers members under 18 years of age not covered by a Family
Membership.
