LEARN TO SAIL
Dinghy: Level 1...
Level 2 (x out one)
The Level 2 course is for those who have already successfully completed
the Level 1 course and are ready to move on the next level.
Participants will learn more advanced skills, to Yachting New Zealand Level 2
standard.
Participants should be able to sail confidently into and away from the wind and
be able to handle their boat in most conditions. Please note that these skills
may need to be demonstrated to qualify for entry into this course.
Level 1 and 2 training may run at each course, if required. There is a maximum
of 12 places on each course. Adult numbers may be limited by the number of
available club boats of suitable size.
Bookings will be confirmed on receipt of a completed application form (see
below) and full payment.

What to Bring
First Night: (you do not need
your sailing gear at this session)
• Pen and paper (for notes)
• You will be provided with a YNZ Log Book by the instructor
On the water:
• wetsuit (short wetsuit recommended during summer or full length for winter)
• swim suit, togs, or shorts
• booties or old sneakers (protection from oysters)
• nylon wind and shower-proof jacket (not heavy quilted - absorbs water)
• sunscreen and lip cream
• optional - gloves, woollen sweater, thermals, hat or cap.
Back ashore:
• towel
• warm clothing & footwear
• food and drink for morning and afternoon sessions
Course location
The course will be based at the Point Chevalier Sailing Club Clubhouse, Raymond
Reserve, Raymond Street, Point Chevalier and the waters directly off the Raymond
Reserve.
Course hours
The course will start with an introduction night to meet the instructors,
discuss the course content and required gear and start the theory portion of the
program. Trainees need to be at the Clubhouse by 6:00 pm on the Friday. This
session will last approximately 2 hours.
On the remaining sailing days trainees must be at the Clubhouse at the indicated
start time. Each training session will be approximately 4 hours long - after the
equipment is packed away and a debriefing has been completed.
No session will be cancelled as weather conditions may change and there are
indoor activities.
Parents/Caregivers
Please Note:
An adult must stay to take responsibility for their child when they return
ashore. Our instructors stay on the water until the last sailor is ashore and
are therefore unable to help supervise children ashore.
If you would like to use your own boat, please contact the Learn to Sail Program
Director prior to the course starting.

Safety Terms and Customer Declaration As in any adventure activity, there is an
element of risk involved. Risks in undertaking this activity include injury,
illness/ death from drowning, exposure or accident. Risk of loss/ damage to
personal property. Full details of the risks involved and their management is
available on request. Point Chevalier Sailing club and its Learn to Sail staff
take all practicable steps to identify and minimise potential dangers. However,
you must follow our instructions and use the safety equipment provided at all
times. Adults accompanying any person under the age of 18 must ensure that the
underage person follows our instructions at all times. You must release or
indemnify Point Chevalier Sailing Club and our staff against any liability we
incur to anyone else, resulting from your failure to follow our instructions or
any person accompanying you under the age of 18 to follow our instructions. We
reserve the right to withdraw any person who in out opinion is likely to
endanger themselves or others. We also reserve the right to cancel the planned
activity if we become concerned for any reason for your safety or that of any
other person. WARNING: Under New Zealand law it is extremely unlikely that you
will be able to sue anyone if you are injured. In addition, New Zealand's
accident compensation scheme provides only limited assistance to visitors to New
Zealand who are injured. We strongly recommend that all visitors to New Zealand
have full insurance covering any injury they might suffer, including medical
treatment cover before undertaking this activity. EXCLUSIONS: To the extent
permitted by law, all our liability for damage to your property, disruption to
travel plans, or mental injury is excluded. This exclusion is subject to any
rights or remedies you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. Please
